GARIBALDI COCKTAILđš
From Italy to Uruguay, to New York city
This classic Italian cocktail couldnât be simpler, in fact it is composed by just two ingredients: Campari bitter and orange juice.
The success of this old fashioned drink comes from its just-about-right balance between the Campari bittersweetness and the smooth tartness of the freshly-squeezed orange juice; and the key is squeezing the orange juice immediately before serving to maintain a âfluffyâ aerated consistency.
Fresh, silky and bright, this is an easy-to-make cocktail that can turn any night in into a special occasion.
A little history
Like many cocktails that have withstood the test of time, the Garibaldi comes with a story even if its origins are unknown.
The named is an homage to Giuseppe Garibaldi, a crucial figure in the liberation of both Italy and Uruguay, and the red-orange drink represents the red shirts worn by Garibaldiâs followers, or the Garibaldini.
Its ingredients - Campari from the north area of Piedmont and oranges from southern Italy, specifically Sicily - together represent the idea of the countryâs unification, the cause that drove Garibaldi in his life and work.
Recently, this little known Italian classic has received a new lease of life thanks to the award-winning bar Dante in New York City.
